JUMA is a Toronto-born brother-sister design duo based out of New York. Alia, a former model, attended George Brown College in Toronto and worked in design houses, while Jamil graduated from McGill University with a degree in Biosystems Engineering. In 2003, they teamed up to create a line that expresses both their experiences and travels across four continents. Click here for more runway shots…
Alia and Jamil describe this season’s collection as dark and moody, which was definitely reflected in the tone of the studio of Heritage Court. Their collection tells a story of their nomadic experiences in the East combined with an urban sensibility, and also draws inspiration from Tibetan mountain people.
JUMA showcased their clothing on natural models, featuring beautiful tapestries offset by lots of olives, blacks, and blues. To make the tribal prints modern, they distorted and layered the fabrics.
